1. See how Stock Investor Pro (AAII's computer program) implements Charles Kirkpatrick's stock picking method found in his Beat the Market.  We can also look at how his method could be implemented in TC2000

2. Suggestion from Marlin Wilson to think about and discuss:  "What are your New Year's Investing Resolutions, and can our group help you find the resources to make them happen?"  Part one (what are your New Year's Investing Resolutions?) may need some pre-meeting reflection on your part, and Part two should profit each attendee with some new ideas, since each person present uses some different resources for different purposes. This discussion may also help in choosing topics for future meetings that are relevant to what you are actually doing.

1. Discuss "Beat the Market: Invest by Knowing What Stocks to Buy and What Stocks to Sell"   by Charles Kirkpatrick III . Kirkpatrick worked with Robert Levy, who was the PhD candidate in the late 60's who took on and contradicted the Efficient Market Theory as it was gaining traction in the world of academia. Levy first introduced the idea of buying high and selling higher in his PhD thesis by tracking momentum; this was the basis of his thesis. He was soundly and roundly criticized (but I think got his PhD anyway); Kirkpatrick took his ideas and expanded them. Some CAI members have been studying his ideas so this should be a lively discussion.

"I can give a more detail presentation of the ETF end-of-day
technical trading system
that I am using. I can show 1 or 2 videos as well
as provide detailed explanations. It is a purely technical end-of-day trading
system that relies only on daily price charts. Entry and exit points are
determined exactly to the penny one day prior to taking any position in an
ETF. Target and stop loss exit points are predetermined so you never have to
guess when to exit a trade. Risk is less than 5% on any position and is never
more than your profit potential and most of the time is just a fraction of
your profit potential. Money management concepts will be discussed as well
as portfolio diversification. The system works in up markets as well as down
markets by using inverse ETFs.

Member Participation night : At the last meeting we decided that, going forward, the economy, and investing topics were of more current interest than the original mission statement of what is takes to use your computer to get investment information. That is important in the process of investing, but most members are pretty fluent in computer use. Perhaps we are shifting from internals - how to run the boat, to what is going on with the economic weather and the condition of the ocean - investment choices out there.

So each member bring something he/she wants to share with the rest of us on a topic/information he/she wants to talk about. The group has smart members who listen, read, and doubt much of what is "financial news", so the benefit of coming to the meeting is to gain from the collective wisdom of real individual investors!

Feb 24 1. Stock picks, Part II   Since our mini-CAI "mutual fund" did so well from June-Dec.31, 2004, (44 stocks made 17.72% ):
 a. Those who picked four/three stocks that all went up, please try to remember why/how you picked those stocks and tell us.
 b. Would you still hold them?  And, since it is now February, would you still hold your January 2005 picks? (Paul Kangas's question to his Market Monitors).
 c. We need more stock picks for the Jan 2, 2005 thru June 30, 2005 for our mini-mutual fund.

Topics - Introduction to managed futures
  Learn about trading system development
Guideline for buying and trading a mechanical system
Free system given to all attendees (valued at $500)

Keith will present a detailed study on the theory of system development, an application of that theory in which he designs a profitable system and an overview of his commercially available trading systems. How trading systems are developed, what must be done to insure that a system is minimally curve fit and what criteria to use when purchasing a trading system. Using his Aberration trading system as an example, showing performance since its release date and a demonstration of its standalone software, which allows for portfolio testing.
Raffle for one of the following books:
“The Four Biggest Mistakes in Futures Trading” by Jay Kaeppal and “Viewpoints of a Commodity Trader” by Ray Longstreet.

Keith Fitschen, the developer of the Aberration, Aztec, and Imaster trading systems.

Keith Fitschen has investigated commodity trading systems for the last 20 years. It started when he was in the Air Force, splitting his time between flying and engineering assignments. Since his retirement from the Air Force, Keith has intensified his efforts. He has looked at many ways to trade commodities -- moving averages, stochastics, oscillators, momentum, cycles, neural nets, wavelets, patterns -- and has developed a lot of make-money systems. Keith says that the best ones have the same things in common: they tend to be simple (few parameters), and they apply to most markets. ABERRATION (one of his own) is by far the best system he’s seen, and it shares those traits.
